Scan administration

Purpose

To define paths to include and exclude for scanning of files, and the frequency for the time to scan.

Usage

By default, the scan policy is inherited from the root organization.

Scan – Default as inherited

To customize the settings, clear the Inherited from System Policy check box to override the default settings and enable all fields, allowing you to enter your own settings.

Time of Scan

This sets the frequency in which scans will be set to run, defaulting as Every Day.
The fixed choices include Every Hour, Every Day, Every Other Day and Every Week.

Scan – Time of Scan

The Custom Scan setting provides further options in addition to the listed fixed values.

Predefined Operating System Excludes

When checked, the scan will automatically exclude paths which would normally not be desired such as temporary files or specialized objects not acting as normal files. Leave this checked for normal purposes, unless you are sure you want additional resources scanned which are normally skipped.

Include Paths

This section lists all paths that will be scanned, showing a single entry as an asterisk by default, which means all drives or volumes which the operating system reports as available. Each listed entry provides a link allowing you to delete that entry or edit that entry.

Scan Includes

To add another entry, click the Include Path button. This will open a dialog with the ability to type in a path to add to the list of included paths. Click OK to save the entry and add to the list, or Cancel to dismiss the dialog with no changes to the list.

Exclude Paths

This section lists all paths that will be skipped. The default is not to skip any paths, with the option to add any paths the user may prefer to avoid being scanned. Each listed entry (if any) provides a link allowing you to delete that entry or edit that entry.

Scan Exclude Paths

To add another entry, click the Exclude Path button. This will open a dialog with the ability to type in a path to add to the list of excluded paths. Click OK to save the entry and add to the list, or Cancel to dismiss the dialog with no changes to the list.

Scan Exclude Path Dialog

Be sure to click the Save All Changes button at the lower right side of the screen to save the changed settings, or click the Discard Changes button to restore the original values. You can even check the Inherited checkbox again to restore setting to defaults as set by the root account.
